Sometimes a natural talent can become a profession. From an early age I was attracted to the written word. Once when I was about six years old my mother came home from work to find me reading the dictionary! I have always been an avid reader and always noticed when words were spelled or used incorrectly. In most of my adult life, I have served informally as proofreader for friends, business associates, and even for company literature.
Proofreading for court reporters has its own unique challenges and requirements. Keeping the record verbatim while keeping it technically correct is a skill. My natural ability to spot errors has been honed in to proofreading through the rigorous course
Transcript Proofreading: Theory and Practice (TM) (see syllabus
here.) In addition, I make use of a wide variety of specific tools, such as
Morson's English Guide for Court Reporters,
Court Reporting: Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation,
The Gregg Reference Manual,
The Chicago Manual of Style, Merriam-Webster, and other reliable resources.
I will work with you to ensure your finished product is as perfect as possible, adapt to your preferences, and meet your deadlines because your name is on the finished product. My goal is to help you be excellent!
